Zombicide Black Plague - Friends and Foes

Board Games – Zombicide is pretty synonymous with tons of expansions – I mean if you got a good thing going why not milk it for everything you can right? Black Plague is the fantasy versions of the mega popular franchise that road the zombie wave that seems to have crested in recent years. In addition to the core game each iteration feature several expansions that add more characters and a different kind of zombie or foe.

Friends and Foes introduces a familiar mechanic because who doesn’t want a pet? It also brings in the “Toxic” zombies, In this versionI suppose they’re tainted by magic instead of toxic waste but the glow green plastic is the same.

With the tainted zombies I had to do something to differentiate them from the regular zombies. Even though the sculpts are pretty different when you have a hoard of the buggers on the table it can be hard to tell the difference. Fluorescent paint is your friend when trying to show magic or glowy effects. By combining that with some of the technical paints I was able to make these guys look infected with some type of magical sickness oozing blood and puss. The bony growths that jut out from the tumors contrast well with the green skin tone. To up the contract level even more I stuck with black/gray cloth to really make the green pop.

The heroes are your standard fair magic user, ranger, girl-next-door and barbarian. The set also includes two of each familiar, wolves, flying cats and hounds. These are pretty standard fantasy paint jobs with lots of natural colors to make them stand out from the bloody garish zombies.
