Venger, A Force of Evil - Painting Chibi

Random – Saturday mornings in the early 80’s were a great time to be a kid. From 1983-1985 the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon was my favorite show. Looking back on it the cartoons that I watched as a kid have had a significant influence on the things I like as an adult. Of course on-line ads and nostalgia sites love to prey on those interests by pumping out associated products so much like a trigger song or smell seeing something that I remember from my youth yanks me back down that rabbit hole.

Anyway several years ago when Super Dungeon and Arcadia Quest were hot properties Impact Miniatures road those coat tails with a several pretty successful Kickstarters. I only bought into the first one that featured Chibi versions of all the characters from the 80’s Dungeon & Dragons show. Of course with the way Kickstarter works and my Magpie nature by the time these delivered I had moved on to something else and the miniatures were boxed up for when I “had time” to dedicate to assembling and painting them.

The COVID-19 lockdown has meant spending more time with the family and busting out some board games that we haven’t had time time to try before. Both my boys seem to really like the Soda Pop games, they have cool characters and dice mechanics that are unique, which seems to appeal to them. As I was going through the various boxes of expansions, I found bags of miniatures from the Impact Chibi Adventures Kickstarter. Right away the boys recognized the cartoon characters and asked if they could use them in the game.

So to appease them, between my commissions I’ve been trying to make time to get paint on these guys and will eventually need to come up with rules for them. I think initially I can just use the Impact models as stand-ins for the existing characters, the abilities are slightly off but close enough to make sense.

The first model I finished up was Venger, a Force of Evil. The primary villain in the D&D Cartoon is essentially a demon prince that chases the heroes around trying to claim their magical weapons.
