Stealing Genes ...

Space Hulk – Genestealer Cults are back and I for one am excited. One of my regular clients recently dropped off a set of Space Hulk miniatures from the most recent version of the game to have me paint up to a basic standard. I never managed to pick up a copy of the game for myself, partially because a friend owns it and partially because I have a full bug hunt corridor set that I can play Zone Mortalis 40K on to get that type of feel. Or so I thought ...

I hadn't ever actually played Space Hulk and it just so happened that as I was getting these ready my friend had just finished cleaning up his own set. So I swung by to try the came out. It's much different than 40K and now I feel like I need to own it ... more important actually playing the game I realized that putting the models on the deck plates I was planning on doing for the client wouldn't work. I was a bit bummed about that as they were going to look sweet all done up, but since he would only ever use this set for the boardgame there's no point in making placement on the board harder than is needs to be.

Because I'm excited about the Genestealer Cult release I opted to work on the Genesteler half of the set first. A traditional blue and purple scheme is what I opted for as it's classic and works well in a simple three color job.

The carapace is based in maccrage blue, with a slate drybrush and wash of drakenfield nightshade. The skin is done in daemonette hide with a wash of leviathan purple. Then the details are picked out in bone and green. I stuck with a simple caliban green with drybursh for the base as it matches the green tiles of the game fairly well.
