The Hunt Begins - Again

Board Games – AvP is an odd franchise similar to Star Wars it has a pretty rabid fanbase that is consistently let down by the latest film. Part of the problem is with 20-40 year old franchises is the nostalgia is strong and fans don’t like to embrace “new coke” the other problem is many of the offerings are rushed, underfunded or poorly executed. From what I’ve read the Colonial Marines video game was supposed to be this amazing return to the classic franchise, however plagued with bugs and delays the final product was poorly received and gave the troubled franchise yet another black eye.

This latest product is another set for the second edition of the Prodos game, which looks really fun and improved from the first edition of the game. Sadly shortly after it’s release the Disney/Fox deal went through the the House of Mouse pulled back most of their licensing deals. Not good news if you were a fan of the game other than a short window to pick up the minis they had left in stock for pretty cheap.

As with the other batches I’ve painted for other clients the models for the game are pretty good. Not great and a little fiddly and somewhat fragile but pretty good. They paint up well with a three color basic paint job with a wash and single highlight. The faces aren’t detailed enough to do much more than give the impression of eyes in my opinion but they look great at arms length.
