Golden Boys - Custodes Back on the Table
/Warhammer 40,000 – Apparently Custodes are dealing with some renegade Primaris Marines in the next chapter of Psychic Awakening. I’m a little behind on reading the full story as playing a full scale game of 40k seems unlikely anytime soon.
These guys are part of a batch of models a new client sent over. Some of them appear to be printed in a resin material and the detail on them is quite good. Both are Sagittarum Custodians which are very different looking than the typical spear wielding versions.
For these I did the standard copper followed by gold wash technique I usually use on gold models. However to take them to the next level I went back in and added gold and silver highlights. This really helped to bring out the gold and make the models really shine.
The bases are a marble technique that I’ve used before to create a volcanic obsidian look, except this time it’s white. I start with a cream/bone color and use a sponge/destroyed brush to stipple gray and white. Then I use some very thin paint the lightly apply the marble veins. Back in college I used to teach the Faux finishing classes at Home Depot and would teach something similar with OOPs paint and the various specialty tools they had for sale. Taking that knowledge and applying it to a significantly smaller scale was fun.
