Deathwing and Death Korp - Notice a Trend?

Warhammer 40,000 – Sometimes I feel the names in Warhammer are a bit one dimensional, especially when you get a variety of armies that have similar names for example there’s Deathguard, Deathwing, Death Korp, Deathwatch and I’m sure there’s a bunch more.

In this batch I painted up a few Relic Terminators in the bone Deathwing scheme as well as several sets of the new plastic Death Korp of Krieg infantry models from the new edition of Kill Team. While I really like the new models, I don’t care for the revised game.

I’m sure the game is better with the revised rules and weird symbol based movement, but for me it feels to similar to other skirmish games that do a better job like Marvel: Crisis Protocol. The appeal of the previous edition of Kill Team was how close to 40k it was while being a different scale with a little more customization. It really felt like the in-between step between 40K and Necromunda. Honestly the new edition is probably fine and will catch up, but I have all the books for the old system (including the one that came out months before the rerelease, another sore point) so I can just build forces using that and enjoy it when I want to play a skirmish game in the Grim Dark.

Death Korp of Krieg - Minotaur

Warhammer 40,000 – Sometimes I feel like the designers at Forgeworld watched way to much “Pimp My Ride.” (You know the 2000’s era MTV should that had car customizers put ridiculous upgrades on questionable vehicles.)

The Minotaur feels like one of those cars, hey we heard you like Basilisks so we put a Basilisk in your Basilisk. When my kids saw me painting it they were like, “Wow you can shoot the guns and go faster…” and now I can get that image out of my head.

Apart from the weird paths the vehicle design takes my mind, the kit is very cool. Death Korp are known for siege warfare so having this artillery piece join the rest of the force. The scheme is a pretty simple camo pattern that is easy to do with a bit of patience. When using painters tape on resin models I’ve found it’s important to give your paint a full 24 hours to cure between coats.

Death Korp - Still Viable in Warhammer 40k?

Death Korp - Still Viable in Warhammer 40k?

Warhammer 40,000 – The Death Korp were one of those fancy Forgeworld Imperial Guard factions that had a special army list with weird rules and points costs that would alternate between way over costed and broken depending on the units or edition of the game. Recently Games Workshop revamped all the existing Forgeworld units and put any that didn’t have models or were discontinued got put into Legends which caused a bit of an uproar. So are Death Korp still viable?

Bring Out the Boom

Warhammer 40,000 – Imperial Guard always get the coolest toys. Of course not all of them are “official” kits, many third party manufacturers make some nice counts as kits that fit with the range nicely. This Victoria Miniatures model makes a nice stand in for a Basilisk and is in my opinion a superior model.

This big gun is part of a Death Korp of Krieg force that has been slowly finding a place on my table. The scheme is army green, brown oxide and grey which looks great in the camo pattern I came up with.
