A Space Marine Chapter - How I plan to build mine

Warhammer 40,000 – One of the things I've been working on since the early 2000's. What started as a bunch of random marines and bits a client traded me for some paint work has blossomed into nearly a full chapter. (Well at least a few companies.) Listening to the Independent Characters recently I realized the latest Space Marine Codex had completely updated how a Company is set up which might change how I lay mine out.

My original plan was to have my "companies" represent the various marine chapters. One of the reasons I chose to do my own chapter in a unique color scheme is to keep my options open. While I love the fluff and plan on writing another detailed breakdown of my chapter when Im finished; I also like to play a variety of different lists and like to use the chapter/chapter tactic/special characters that best compliment the tactics for the lists I build. Doing it like this makes my marines "evergreen" and allows me to change my lists or update my army with minimal effort for each new edition of the codex and/or game.

With 8th edition, the Primaris Marines created essentially a whole new sub-force that I will need to work into my Chapter. Based on the 2nd Company Ultramarines breakdown (finally updated) it looks like the easiest way to work them in is to add 1-2 squads to each company. I considered making one of the battle companies all Primaris, but for my chapter I think mixing makes the most sense. I'm not buying into the phasing out of standard marines and don't plan on investing in a bunch of Primaris. A light sprinkling of some units is enough for me.

First Company - The veterans, for this company I plan to have Tyberious the Red Wake change his name and lead my Terminators, Vanguard and Sternguard. For now Carchadons can select chapter tactics at their leisure since their progenitor chapter is unknown. I subscribe to the idea they are most likely a Raven Guard offshoot and will play them that way most of the time. At some point I may look at doing a Deathwing variation for this company but not at this time.

Second Company - This will be one of my core Companies. I'll be able to field two solid battalions from this group. Each Tactical Squad will be equipped for a specific purpose, most of them having a heavy weapon, specialist weapon and the Sergeant will have the combi-weapon to match.

Third Company - Most of the units I most commonly use will be pulled from the Third company. The Third Company Champion will be represented as the Imperial Marine. I love the model and working him in using his relic gun instead of a sword will fit with my play-style for this company. When I start using my loyal marines again I plan on focusing on the Raven Guard for my chapter tactics most often. This Company will be my marksmen, taking the enemy out from range and in cover.

Fourth Company - The fourth company will focus on mobile assaults. They'll be my go to company when I need to get somewhere fast. When I want to play White Scars these will be my go to, everyone will be mounted on a bike or in a vehicle allowing me to move all over the board and claim objectives quickly. Being able to fall back and shoot as well as getting a bonus to advance will make my Fourth Company something to be feared.
