Mothership - Set Engines to Fun?

Board Games – Space Battle games can range the from super complicated affairs like Twilight Imperium and Battlefleet Gothic to fairly simple like X-wing. Mothership is billed as being closer to the latter. Getting right into the heart of the battle is it’s primary selling point.

Like most space battle games the ships for this game are pretty tiny. For their size the models are pretty detailed and remind me a bit of Space Invaders. With several unique sculpts for ships, gun platforms and planets you definitely get the feel that this is a fleet game.

To get these painted up quickly so they look a bit better than the plain brightly colored plastic I used the same technique I’ve applied to several other space game with tons of tiny miniatures. Starting with a metallic sliver base coat and then applying the appropriate color contrast paint to give them a nice metallic look that maintains the player colors for ease of game play. It’s not the best paint job but it’s fast and gets to the point without detailing each piece to look realistic with tiny fleet marking that might be hard to see on the table.

The planets sadly only have two sculpts on earth-like and the other more of a gas giant. I varied the colors on the land masses to give a bit of variety but didn’t fell that they needed much more than that.
