Blackstone Fortress - Another Set Fully Painted

Warhammer 40,000 – Blackstone Fortress is a cool looking game. Having still not had a chance to play my own set I can only comment on how cool the game looks. One day I’m hoping to play through it as well as get my own set painted but right now there are too many other games that are grabbing my attention.

These models are some of the most characterful models Games Workshop has made combined with the expansions and previous Kill Team box set you really get a feel for what a Rogue Trader and Crew look like. A weird cross between a pirate and cyperpunk with a little gothic thrown in is how I describe the Rogue Traders.

The villains of the set are also quite unique Traitor Guard, Beastmen, Cultists, Chaos Marines, and some random gribblies make a force that your heroes will have to face in their quest for the secrets of the Blackstone Fortress.

Warhammer 40,000 – Sometimes the various boxed games will provide a decent set of rules for the larger game. Sometimes the rules are really “fluffy” but to restrictive to play in a competitive format. A good example of this are the models from the Kill Team: Rogue Trader box, the rules for them make sense and feel right but the restrictions of detachments and keyword mixing make them unattractive in any matched play scenario.

Apparently this little guy is a cheap elite choice for Tau armies which helps them to fill out brigades. I don’t play against Tau enough to know if this is a solid decision for building a force but the logic seems sound.

Warhammer 40,000 – The sculpts for Blackstone Fortress continue to impress me. In the days of old push fit kits like these would have been rather flat and lacking in detail, no so anymore. Of course the trade-off for the dynamic poses these kits offer is the lack of customization.

Fear the Dreaded Ambull

Warhammer 40,000 – The Ambull has been part of 40K lore since Rogue Trader, a nasty creature that lives underground and has been found throughout the galaxy. Last year I read my son the “Warped Galaxies” book Claws of the Genestealer and was excited to see they worked the Ambull into that story.
