Victim - The Cursed Forest and Asylum

Board Games – Victim is a pretty cool looking game that has similar mechanics to House of Haunted Hill. Halfway through the game a player becomes the monster and the game changes dramatically. The components for this game are pretty robust and the minis have a anime feel to them.

From the Manufacturer:

Victim, a horror board game that lets players help each other to find a way out by cooperatively completing defined missions, is for 2-6 people with about 40-90 minutes of playtime. Each player will receive a different character with a different skill such as an ability to be good at navigation, searching, healing and decoding. Players need to brainstorm to wisely divide duties to each other and find a way out in a specific time.

In the middle of the game, there will be one player to be possessed by the evil and the mission of that possessed player will become to eliminate other players or blocking the way out instead. Therefore, remaining players have to team up to overcome obstacles and try their best to get out of the forest in the end.

Dark Ages - Epic Adventure

Board Games – Dark Ages is a 4X game set in the well, Dark Ages. It has many unique miniatures representing resources, military might and unique locations.

From the Manufacturer:

Dark Ages is a historically-based civilization-building game that features an innovative action selection mechanism. As long as your action markers remain on the board, you may be able to gain secondary bonus actions whenever you or another player repeat the action.

While Dark Ages features objectives commonly found in 4X games — encouraging you to explore nearby regions, expand your territory, exploit the resources, and exterminate your opponents — it does so featuring several Euro-centric mechanisms. Collect resources from lands under your control, using them to build up your cities and fortifications. Some building types provide several ways for you to gain important in-game advantages, while others enhance your military strength or simply score you victory points. As you expand your territory, you will lay claim to noble titles, acquire new technologies, and train your military units. Each region and leader offer asymmetrical choices with their unique abilities.

Runaljod - Vikings Throwing Bones

Board Games – I’ve painted lots of Viking games over the last year or so, Runaljod is the newest addition to that list. The game seems pretty interesting based on the designers description:

Runaljod is a miniatures game with a new innovative mechanics, based on throwing the runes to manage your actions. The position on the runes when they fall on the board will show you the actions that you can perform in this turn, like: activate your own character special ability, explore new areas or even count on the gods' power. To activate the enemies we provide you with an intelligent deck that will show you the actions performed by the enemies on that turn. In Runaljod your objective is to destroy the mythological creatures that where released by unknown forces, and only the most brave heroes will be chosen by the gods to fulfill such a hard duty.

Embrace the god´s blessing, trust in the power of the runes, and make your path to glory in the halls of Valhalla!

Something's Fishy - Deepkin Warband

Age of Sigmar – Deepkin are one of the new flavors of Elf introduced to Age of Sigmar, the whole “Undersea Magic” is odd to me but the overall look of the models is very cool.

Mythic Battles - Poseidon

Board Games – Poseidon is a seafaring expansion for Mythic Battles.

Warhammer Underworlds - Feral Orks

Age of Sigmar – Feral Orks have always been a faction I’ve found to be fun and interesting. The primitive look with fur and feathers is fun to paint and looks pretty impressive on the tabletop. I prefer the look to the rusted metal of the 40k Space Orks.

Nobody Expects the Imperial Inquisition

Warhammer 40,000 – Imperial Agents have been in a weird place for several editions now. Initially introduced as part of the Gray Knights and Sisters of Battle books back in 3rd Edition they’ve since been pulled out and shoehorned into some odd places. You’re once again able to include them in a Imperial force with minimal effort.

This latest batch includes a few Witchhunters, the Throne of Judgement, Jokero and some Daemon-hosts.

Mythic Battles - Corthina

Board Games – Flying gorilla playable with Conan and Mythic Battles.

Nurgle Plague Frogs

Warhammer 40,000 - As of late I’ve been getting more and more 3D printed models on my table many of which have been unique sculpts rather than recreations of existing models. It’s exciting to see creative ways to “scratch-build” models. However with new technologies come new hurdles, for example, these models painted up really nicely, but after i took photos and packed them up for delivery I ran into a major issue.

When moving the box I had these models packed up in I noticed the bottom of the box was wet. Odd, I thought not seeing anything else in the area that could have caused to box to get wet. So I opened it up to investigate and saw everything was covered in a grayish slime. Confused I removed the models and noticed several seem to have exploded, bursting open.

After posting some photos of the mess on some other groups I learned that this is common with resin printing it something is printed “hollow” without holes. The resin inside doesn’t drain or cure so it can swell and cause the models to “burst” open.

I now have them sitting in the sun to see if I can get the mess to cure and potentially fix the models by adding more gore.

Mythic Battles - Expansions

Board Games - Mythic Battles is a very cool game, these are more expansions.

Force on Force - Somolis

GN_FoF_Somolies_01.jpg

Historical - I’ve painted a few models for Force on Force previously. These 20mm modern miniatures are pretty solid. The paint job is pretty simple since the models are very small.

Raptors - Ready to Roll

Warhammer 40,000 – Big Green Stompy Robots are ready to roll. With tournaments coming back I’m seeing quite a few clients prepping their lists for what they think will be the new ninth edition meta.

Masters of Night

Board GamesMasters of Night is a Vampire themed game set in which you play as a vampire arriving in a new city and need to take control to survive.

The minis are pretty standard board game quality with just enough detail to look cool but not quite enough to make a showpiece.

Marvel United - Expansions Galore

Board Games – I love Marvel: United, it’s a simple co-op game that you can play with anyone. Next year the X-men will be joining the game which will round out the roster with a ton more characters to try out. This is the first batch of another set I’m painting which includes all the expansions.

SAGA - Picts

JM_Saga_Picts_01.jpg

SAGA – I’m not a huge fan of King Arthur but SAGA seems to be growing in popularity with my clients. I’ve painted up several forces for the game it seems that the sculpts are reused for every faction because many of the models in this batch I’ve painted before in different schemes.

JM_Saga_Picts_04.jpg

I went with a red, brown and yellow scheme for the Picts, this force looks a bit more cohesive than some of the others I’ve painted, which I think looks better. It’s not really historically accurate for peasants, but it looks nicer on the table.

Raptors Morph Into Great Whites?

Warhammer 40,000 – I’ve been painting parts of the Space Marine army for a client for quite some time. He recently decided to pick up some iconography from Pop Goes the Monkey to finish off the green marines. I’m a big fan of how the white shark looks on the army green pad. I’m not sure what he’s going to call his chapter but they look great. Tournaments are being scheduled again so he’s sent over models that he needs for his GT list, this is the first batch.

40K Grab Bag - Army Editions

Warhammer 40,000 – Playing a Games Workshop game has several stages of army building, concept, core, maximization and general addition. The first part is figuring out what you want to play and getting a basic army to learn with. Once you understand your force you add units to max it larger or better suited to fulfill the concept you started with. The last part is just picking up new stuff because it looks cool or just to have EVERYTHING associated with your force.

This latest batch of miniatures consists of that last stage. None of these really “go together” as a complete force but fit in to existing ones.
