Space Hulk - Blood Angel Terminators

Warhammer 40,000 –  Blood Angels Terminators were at one point the most ornate models GW produced, that mantle has been passed on to newer releases, but these guys still hold up.

This batch was painted for a client that will be running a big Space Hulk event this fall and he needed a few more guys to fill out the game.

Eisenhorn - Special Edition Model

Warhammer 40,000 – I’ve painted Eisenhorn a few times now and each time I enjoy it. The sculpt captures what I imagine the character from the novels looks like even if he rules aren’t the best.

WWII Matilda

Historical – This little tank was pretty fun to paint, I imagine it’s the first piece of a larger force.

Star Wars Legions - Darth Maul

Star Wars – Darth Maul has to be one of my favorite character designs. I remember being super excited when the first images and toys were released showing his demonic-looking face. Sadly his role in the first prequel was limited to generic bad guy that gets killed in the climax. When he came back in the animated series I was excited to see such a cool character design return. The end of Solo also hinted at a live action return, sadly with the poor reception of the Solo film I doubt we’ll see where that arc was going to go.

This sculpt like most of the Legions line captures the look of the character and provides a few options to make your choice stand out.

More Dungeon Doggies

Random – The Dungeon Doggies line has been really popular with several of my clients. This latest batch adds a few more of the four legged character classes.

Eldar Avatar of Khaine

Warhammer 40,000 – The Forgeworld Avatar is a pretty nice model. The molten details come across really well in resin. This particular project is for a Biel-Tan force that I’ll probably have a few additional elements to paint.

Ultramarines - New Recruits

Warhammer 40,000 – The Ultramarines force I’ve been painting just got some new recruits. The gun platform and ATV are some of the newer models in the range. Pretty simple models that add Primaris Elements to the force that were sorely missed in the initial waves.

The gun platform is cool but I don’t know that it was really needed. The ATV is a neat model that fits with a very popular kit-bash that turn the old bikes into ATV’s.

Galaxy Hunters

Board Game – Galaxy Hunters is a giant robot game by IDW Games. The premiss is you play as a bounty hunting pilot working for a mega corporation collecting resources to gain fortune and fame.

I haven’t had a chance to play but the game looks really nice. High quality components, large scale models and a ton of cardboard in a nice box organizer make it look really nice.

SPOILER ALERT - Scythe: Rise of Fenris

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Board Games – I’ve painted all the various expansions for Scythe and was happy to see another box has been added to the game. I haven’t read through it but it appears that the various boxes are meant to be opened over the course of playing through the expansion. So be forewarned these images might spoil some surprise elements.

Custodes - Additions

Warhammer 40,000 – I’ve had this Custodes force on my table for some time. I opted to break it up into several smaller projects because painting this much red and gold can get tedious. I have a pretty simple recipe that involves a copper base coat, gold and a agrax wash. Once that dries I pick out the details and call them done.

Sisters of Battle - Old and New (Plus Crusaders)

Warhammer 40,000 – Some old metal models are just to cool to leave behind. This project has several classics mixed with some new plastic models. Saint Celestine, the Gemini and a whole lot of Crusaders.

3D Printed Praetor - Imperial Guard

Warhammer 40,000 – 3D printing continues to impress me, while I don’t think I can find the time to devote to learning to do it and the patience to tweak design files, I am impressed when others do it. This giant missile launching tank is a filament print that looks very similar to the Praetor resin kit.

I painted this to match the Death Korp force I’ve painted components for. The simple camo scheme looks great on this large model and helps to hide the fine lines from the filament print.

Iron Hands Successor Chapter - Additions

Warhammer 40,000 – I’ve been slowly painting additional models for this Iron Hands force in small batches. It’s always fun to see what new (old) model finds it’s way onto the custom printed bases, each time they cross my table. This time around are a few more characters, a dreadnought, some special weapons and a very old terminator.

Catapult Kingdoms - War for the Floor

Board Games – When I was a kid I owned Crossbows and Catapults, it was a cool game that had you shot hard plastic pucks at your opponent with rubber band powered siege engines. The look was very barbarian fantasy looking and the game was very fun. When I saw Catapult Kingdoms on Kickstarter it immediately brought back memories of that older game. The look is very cartoony and the components are vastly superior to the originals.

This project was the entire all-in package which has the core game, 2 expansions, a viking ship, and a volcano. I didn’t paint the individual castle components but focused on a simple paint job to bring the cartoony components to life. I’m happy with the end result and double sealed the parts to help stand up to the abuse they’ll get having rubber balls shot at them over and over.

Walking Dead - The Board Game

Board Games – I used to be a huge fan of the Walking Dead, however once I cut the cable cord I lost touch with the AMC series. Painting this board game was a bit of nostalgia as the characters are from the early seasons of the show. While not the same quality as the other miniature games based on the property these sculpts are easily recognizable as the characters from the show.

I stuck with a pretty basic paint job to get these quickly painted to a tabletop standard. I decided to stick with a duplicate paint job on the duplicate sculpts in this box since they’re pretty basic looking.

Deathwing – Dark Angels Additions

Warhammer 40,000 – I love the bone color of Dark Angels terminators, the look of a mixed fully painted force on the table is impressive with any faction but with the Dark Angels it’s particularly cool because of the stark contrast between the first, second and battle companies.

Tiny Epic Pirates

Boardgames – Miniature games aren’t typically small and portable. Tiny Epic Pirates is the exception this cool little game comes with several plastic ships that break down and fit back in the little box. This project is pretty basic with a simple coat of contrast paint on the ships and sails to make them look a little better than the bare molded plastic.

Marvel United - Kickstarter Exclusives Part One

Board Games – Marvel United is one of the more clever co-op games that has come around lately. The game is simple enough that anyone can quickly pick up on the mechanics of the game. Changing up the team of heroes makes the game very different, and each villain brings an entirely different challenge to the game.

I recently was able to track down one of the Kickstarter Exclusive sets for a reasonable price. Having an additional 52 models means I’ll be painting these little guys between my other projects for some time.

I’ve always been a fan of the Midnight Sons and more street level heroes so that’s what I started with on this batch.

Dark Rituals - Cursed Fjord

Boardgames – The last of the expansions for Dark Rituals is the obligatory “viking” themed box. This has a variety of ice and river themed enemies as well as some barbarian heroes to add to the mix. As a big box expansions it has a bunch of extra box sections and components to add to the core game.
