A detailed account of my various commission/hobby projects.
Confrontation – The last two years have given people an opportunity to go through their piles of shame while stuck at home. Which is great because I get random projects like this featuring some classic out of print models.
Dungeons and Dragons – Having your character class as a cute animal miniature seems to be a more of a thing in recent years. I’ve painted plenty of sets of Dungeon Doggies and Catacomb Cats, but this is my first set of Reaper Mouslings. These little guys are very cute and there’s enough variety of them at this point that you could run a full campaign or even mix them in with some of the Mice and Mystics models for some variety.
Random – The Dungeon Doggies line has been really popular with several of my clients. This latest batch adds a few more of the four legged character classes.
Dungeons and Dragons – Have you been wanting to try DnD but really wanted to be a dog or cat? If so then Steamforge Games has you covered. Last year they released Dungeon Doggies and they were such a hit that there’s now sets that feature cats as well as a starter box with some ready made adventures and characters.
This set seems like a perfect entry point for young or new gamers that want to see what a pen and paper game is all about. If the idea of playing as an intelligent animal seems fun you should check out Animal Adventures.
Role Playing – Dungeon Doggies are a cool set of alternative miniatures to use in any miniatures agnostic fantasy game. So if you’ve had your heart set on playing out Oliver & Co. or the Incredible Journey, you totally can. Or if you just want to annoy your GM and play a Scooby-like talking dog, well go for it.
I enjoyed painting these. The models are pretty well detailed and the sculpture took the time to think out how some pieces of armor might work on a dog. They also made sure to accurately represent the various breeds which of course meant I had to do some research to make the paint match.
These were originally part of a Kickstarter but are now available from Steamforged Games. Shown here are two complete sets of the three boxes available. Several of my clients have picked up the miniatures so I imagine you might see more of these soon.
Dungeons & Dragons – Hobbits, Halflings or small folk. Call them what you will but don't forget to call them for diner. This band of merry midgets is my latest Dungeons and Dragons project. One of my clients regularly sends me models for his next campaign. Previously I've painted terrain for a Wizards Lair, Demons of different spheres, a whole group of fire monsters as well as a band of barbarians. I really enjoy painting these small bands that tie into a theme. It's a nice break from my typical grim dark grind.
Read MoreKickstarter – After some minor delays the Reaper Bones 3 Kickstarter arrived. I didn't go whole hog on this one as I don't play D&D I don't really need a boatload of Fantasy models, even if it's an amazing deal. While this was running my group was playing quite a bit of Frostgrave however, so I did pick up the Graveyard set to fill out my board.

Read MoreDungeons & Dragons – I'm just aboiut done with these fire demons. It's a bit odd because the models aren't technically sculpted like they're on fire so I'm really just winging it to determine where the hot spots should be and where it cools down to more of an orange from the white and yellow areas. I'm happy with the results and I feel like the models are conveying that made from flame look.

It's a fairly simple process that while a bit time consuming doesn't require a ton of thought to do and make the models look great. Painting tiny mushrooms and levers not so much. Those require a bit more patience, and a steadier hand to get done to good standard.
Read MoreDungeons & Dragons – I just wrapped up two more characters for a client. These are both pretty cool models and I'm really happy with how the paint turned out. For the knight's cape I went back to my any color red highlight. I'm disappointed I haven't been able to find this product for any other colors because it works amazing to get that nice highlight without turning orange or pink.

Overall I really like how the models turned out. As you can see in the photos below there are some really interesting bits on each piece.
Read MoreDungeons & Dragons – I've been working on a big resin terrain project in between my regular commissions. While I'm making quite a bit of progress it's not super exciting look at the highlights on a book shelf so I'm saving those shots until I get it completed.
Read MoreDungeons & Dragons – I wrapped up my first Hero Forge Character model. I'm really happy with how this model turned out. I did some scratches and chipping on the green plate to make it look more worn. The technique is simple and just requie a line of metallic paint with a line of dark brown to highlight the mark.
Read MoreDungeons & Dragons – I have several DnD projects in the works now for a few clients. The big one is a bunch of dungeon terrain with a few interesting monsters to help populate that dungeon. I also have a few Hero Forge Custom Character minis coming in from clients who what to get their special models painted up for the tabletop.The concept is pretty cool and it seems like a reasonable cost to get a model made to match the pen and paper character they created.

Read MoreDungeons & Dragons – Blue, pink and green are not in my typical comfort zone on models. I've done each as a main color individually but never all together. The second half of the demon job I'm working on pulls those colors together.
Read MoreDungeons & Dragons – This demon job seems to be taking significantly longer than usual. After several variations I think I finally got the skin tone right on these plague demons. It's a shame my camera isn't picking up all the subtle variations in tone, I suppose once I'm done and set up the light box and use my real camera instead of my phone the photos will showcase the sick skin color.
