Iron Hands Successor Chapter - Additional Elements

Warhammer 40,000 – This Iron Hands Sucessor Chapter has been slowly coming together. While it’s my least favorite way to paint an army the color scheme for these is simple enough that I don’t mind the piecemeal nature of the project.

Blue and Gold - Eldar Finished

Warhammer 40,000 – This batch of models completes a good size force of space elves. A pretty simple color scheme at my basic level can get a nice looking army of the table quickly. This is ideal for players that want to get those 10 points for being fully painted in ninth edition without breaking the bank.

Arcadia Quest - Achievement Unlocked?

Board Games – Last year I painted up the majority of the models for Arcadia Quest and the various expansions. This batch of models should be the last of what CMON has released so far.

Overall I’m really happy with how the models have turned out painting Chibi style minis is fun and a nice break from the serious grim dark stuff I typically paint.

Aliens - Another Glorious Day

Board Games – Many people were sad when the Alien vs. Predator game was canceled when Disney acquired Fox. While it’s a bummer that game went away having another company pick up the license is a very good thing.

AvP was a pretty overly complicated game that missed that sweet spot where fans of the series intersect with fans of boardgames. They tried to rectify that with the one-piece sculpts of the second edition but still had the issue with the average person doesn’t want to invest the time it takes to learn, build paint and play a tabletop miniatures game.

Another Glorious Day in the Corp mixes really nice screen-accurate miniatures with a simpler system that most people could pick-up and play fairly quickly. The hard plastic minis are color coded by faction as assembly is really simple with some plastic cement and clippers.

Rising Phoenix

Warhammer 40,000 – The plastic Jain Zar model is so good I’ve painted a few of them. Not much more I can say about it.

Dark Angels - Indomitus

Warhammer 40,000 – Dark Angels getting rolled into the main Space Marine book is a good thing. In fact thiis ninth edition change for all the Space Marines is the right direction. Getting all factions on the same page to avoid the random, Well out Storm Shields cost XX and do YY instead of ZZ.

With the supplement that was recently released they’re getting some cool unique options that give the First Chapter a bit of flair.

Star Trek - Borg and Ferengi

Board Games – I’ve painted up a few of the expansions for Star Trek Ascendency. The technique I’me using is a contrast paint over a silver base. This is a pretty quick way to make the ships look a little better than the plain plastic.

Hivefleet Levithan Gets Some Super Sized Support

Hivefleet Levithan Gets Some Super Sized Support

Warhammer 40,000 – Dimachaerons are giant bugs that are about the same size as an Imperial Knight. Their rules like most Forgeworld units have jumped from pretty ok to really good to overcosted and back again. Regardless of the edition or current rules the models are really cool and make a great center piece for any force.

Death Korp - Still Viable in Warhammer 40k?

Death Korp - Still Viable in Warhammer 40k?

Warhammer 40,000 – The Death Korp were one of those fancy Forgeworld Imperial Guard factions that had a special army list with weird rules and points costs that would alternate between way over costed and broken depending on the units or edition of the game. Recently Games Workshop revamped all the existing Forgeworld units and put any that didn’t have models or were discontinued got put into Legends which caused a bit of an uproar. So are Death Korp still viable?

Incursion Second Edition - Weird War II

Incursion Second Edition - Weird War II

Board Games – Incursion was a great game, the only real issue with the first edition was how expensive it was to get the metal miniatures and the challenges of storing them. I was lucky enough to pick up the core box of the first edition ages ago and finally got my metal set of minis painted when the pandemic began. Its funny that I painted the second edition almost a year later.

Thousand Sons Kill Team

Thousand Sons Kill Team

Warhammer 40,000 – Happy New Year! I’ve never had the opportunity to play against the Thousand Sons in Kill Team, however I have a regular 40K opponent that plays them and he’s mentioned they’re tough to pull off in Kill Team. This set is part of a matched set for a travel Kill Team set, the other half consists of the Grey Knights I painted up last year.

Kill Team - Grey Knights

Kill Team - Grey Knights

Warhammer 40,000 – Kill Team is one of my favorite additions to the Warhammer 40,000 brand. Small elite forces using a similar but different ruleset that works for the scale of this game. This is one half of a set I painted up for a client. It’s a pretty smart idea to have two teams built to fight each other as part of a travel kit.

Cyclades - Expansions

Board Games – Cyclades is a pretty cool board game with a ton of not so great miniatures. I painted the core game up earlier this year and recently had a chance to paint up the first three expansions for the game. Luckily the quality of the miniatures got “better” with each release.

Hades, TItans and Monuments all add new challenges to the game as well as providing options for adding another player.

Fuji Koro - It's like Mine Craft?

Board Games – Fuji Koro has a unique aesthetic that plays up the blocky look that made my kids ask is this a Mine Craft game? The concept seems pretty cool, collect and craft items before the volcano erupts or the Dragons kill you.

The miniatures were fun to paint, the unique look of them played into a more cartoony look than I typically paint and they had enough texture that I could experiment with contrast paint for some unique metallic effects on the dragons.

SAGA - Welsh Calvary

Historical – SAGA is a popular viking game for which I painted some infantry models earlier this year. This batch of calvary is to go with that force. I don’t know much about the game but here’s a description from the manufacturer:

“Every age has its heroes. Singular men, whose prowess and virtue have raised them above mere mortals, and who have forged their own fates through their determination, courage and strength. Their names have survived the passage of time: King Arthur, William the Conqueror, Achilles and Conan.

Whether they were born in popular legend, the fertile minds of writers or the annals of history, they live forever in our collective memory as the most celebrated figures of ages past.

However, for each surviving legend there exist innumerable others still waiting to be written. Thousands of heroes wait to prove themselves on the battlefield, to speak with fire and steel, and to carve their mark on the world around them. With the book in your hands, you have the unique opportunity to take part in the creation of these legends and to see them master their destinies in turn.

Your Saga begins here…

Saga is a skirmish game taking place in the heroic ages, whether they are historical, mythological, or sprung from the minds of writers. It brings to life the battles between exceptional warriors – Warlords, who defy their enemies on the battlefield at the head of their warband.”
