Kill Team - Grey Knights

Kill Team - Grey Knights

Warhammer 40,000 – Kill Team is one of my favorite additions to the Warhammer 40,000 brand. Small elite forces using a similar but different ruleset that works for the scale of this game. This is one half of a set I painted up for a client. It’s a pretty smart idea to have two teams built to fight each other as part of a travel kit.

Warhammer 40,000 - I miss being able to play 40K 2-3 times a week. Back when I could play more often I think I was either significantly better or my opponents were significantly worse. Regardless I was glad to take some of my toys for a spin on the new terrain set I've been working on to make sure it's functional before I finish painting up this set of mining company terrain. I'll post about it's construction at a later date as I need to make a few more pieces to fill out the table.

The Primarch's Return

Warhammer 40,000 - The last set of the Gathering Storm models is probably my favorite. Although I can't stand the Ultramarines in general it's pretty cool to see Robute wake up and do the action hero thing. It's also cool to see Cypher doing the Clint Eastwood, Man with No Name pose for the new kit. The Grey Knight Grandmaster is the weakest of the models but he still looks pretty amazing.

Grand Master Voldus is a typical Grey Knight model. Lots of details all over the armor but other wise its a similar pose to other terminator characters. For this one I painted to match the clients other Grey Knight models which don't use metallic silver for the armor.

Roubute Guilliman is an imposing Monsterous Creature. About the same size as a Daemon Prince he's an imposing figure. My client asked that I paint him a pale blue so that it looked better with his Salamanders and Grey Knights. I'm happy with how the blue looks next to the gold it feels a little more regal to me than the traditional blue and gold. For the sword and torches I used fluorescent paints with a yellow wash to get that bright flame effect.

Warhammer 40,000 – I just finished up another batch of Grey Knights to go along with the force I previously painted for the same client. The interesting thing about thes models is they were literally saved from a fire. Once of the local stores I visit semi-regularly had a fire that caused some major damage, as a result he was able to pick up some pretty badly damaged product that he needed me to salvage.

Warhammer 40,000 – The next batch of 46 infantry models are done for this Grey Knight force. This commission rounds out the other Grey Knight models I painted up a few months ago. My client opted for a basic three color job with a wash and gravel base. He also opted for a matte clearcoat, which is slightly more difficult to apply then a heavy gloss coat.

Revisited - Assassins

Warhammer 40,000 – A little while back I painted up a team of Vindicare Assassins for a client, I had kept them pretty standard looking with just the straps being different colors. Initially he was quite happy with these but after having them on the table he decided he wanted to brighten them up. Part of the issue is he's color blind so it was hard for him to tell them apart.

Warhammer 40,000 – The second half of the Grey Knights commission I'm working on consists of two stormravens, three dreadnoughts, and two nemesis dreadknights. These go along with the last batch of models and are in the same three color + level of painting. It seems that this is a very popular level as it's not to costly and the models look great on the tabletop.

Grey Knights - First Batch

Warhammer 40,000 – I've been hit with a deluge of Warhammer 40,000 commissions lately, which I take as a good sign for the game. It seems that locally people are flocking back to the game as something tried and true after being disappointed by the latest hotness too often. I have to say I'm glad as 40K was my first real mini game and it still remains one of my favorites.
