OPEN WAR – Carcharodons/House Raven vs. Grey Knights/Blood Angels

OPEN WAR – Carcharodons/House Raven vs. Grey Knights/Blood Angels

Warhammer 40,000– I really like the Open War Deck. It’s a quick way to set up a game that tends to be different every time you play. Unlike Maelstrom of War the objectives tend to be simple and fixed so there is more “skill” and less “luck of the draw.” Although some of the mission combinations you can get with the Open War deck are pretty ridiculous at least both players have to deal with the bad flips.

Blood in Blood Out - Blood Angels vs the Imperium

Blood in Blood Out - Blood Angels vs the Imperium

Warhammer 40,000 – Weekly game night should be getting back on track with Fall right around the corner. I've been lucky enough to get a game in every week this summer and I've been enjoying tinkering with an Imperial Crusade list. Yes, I can hear your moans it consists of Astra Militarum: Catachans, Blood Angels and House Raven.

If everyone else jumped off a bridge....

Warhammer 40,000 – So command points are super important in most codex armies in 8th edition 40K. Mixing armies seems to also be pretty important to build the most effective fighting force. I've never been a huge fan of Imperial Guard but I recently read the Rogue Trader Omnibus and found the Guard unit that the main character joined up with to fight the Tau interesting. I really enjoyed how the novels paired Space Marines, Guard, Knights/Titans, Inquisitors, Priests and Rogue traders together in a Crusade force. Seeing how they worked together inspired me to make an Imperial force. Now since soup is dead mixing armies with only 3 detachments is tricky. Particularly if you want to include Agents of the Imperium (it's pretty sad that the cool fluffy Imperium keyword got beat down for competitive play, but whatever) so I won't be able to include everything I want in a single force but perhaps I can make several elements so I can pull from the various factions taking part in my Crusade.

Hide and Seek Champions - Raven Guard vs Alpha Legion

Hide and Seek Champions - Raven Guard vs Alpha Legion

Warhammer 40,000 – Today's question is who would win in a gunfight between the two sneaky marine factions? Alpha Legion and Raven Guard mimic each other in most of their chapter tactics and abilities so this should be a fairly even match up. Maelstrom of War with Tactical Objective cards should force both forces to move about a bit. Scorched Earth is one of the more unforgiving missions out of Chapter Approved 2017, so of course that's what we rolled to play.

8th Edition – So far so good

8th Edition – So far so good

Warhammer 40,000 – With the games I've played so far in the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 I'm really happy with how things have worked out so far. There's still a bit of lag mostly due to looking for things that were in previous editions. Getting you're head around the whole, "Does it say anything about that on the 8 pages of rules, or on the unit's data slate? No, then it's not a thing" can cause some minor disputes about things that aren't really a thing.
