Space Wolves - Adding to the Pack Again

Warhammer 40,000 – Space Wolves seem to be an army I’m always getting something to add to for serveral different people. I guess it’s one of those armies that you can always tweak with a new unit or two to get a different style of game play.

Release the Wolves

Warhammer 40,000 – Space Wolves, love em or hate em these space viking barbarians are always a popular faction. The iconic slate blue with yellow accents and a snow covered base is relatively easy to accomplish with a few simple base colors and washes. The time sink for these models are all the details, teeth, pelts and random charms which require a bit of time and effort to make look good.

Space Wolves - Snowy Savages

Warhammer 40,000 – I’ve painted several Space Wolf forces over the years, each one of them follows a similar color scheme and style to this latest project. One of the nice things about well established chapters is the depth of lore and the fully realized look of the army. Once you figure out how you’re going to cary out the look it’s pretty straight forward.

I always start with a slate grey color as my base, it’s a lighter cool grey color that I then apply a heavy wash over using Nightshade. You can get a similar look by applying the Contrast Space Wolves grey, but I tend to stick with tried and true techniques I’ve used before. The yellow is Iyanden Darksun which when you’re painting yellow is a lifesaver, a quick wash of Cassandra yellow really bring out the color. To paint the pelts I combined Contrast colors with traditional techniques.

Wolves on the Prowl - More Space Wolves

Warhammer 40,000 – Quite often I have clients come back to add additional units to their armies. With a living system like 40k has become points fluctuate with the Chapter Approved releases, rules change with new supplements or FAQs and as such a 2,000 point army may find itself in need of some reinforcements. Such is the case with these Space Wolves I painted a few years ago.

Warhammer 40,000 – What do you do when you have two models of the same character from different eras? Well I suppose you commission someone to paint it up as a unique model to represent a different loadout. One of my regular clients came across a full complement of Space Wolf character models in a bargin bin and sent them over to get painted like the rest of his force.

The Wolf Lord Sleighs Again

Warhammer 40,000 – Just in time for the holidays Logan Grimnar rides across my paint table to bring grim darkness to all the good little Imperial Servants. My Space Wolf client is getting the core of his force just about wrapped up and wanted Logan on and off his sleigh to lead them to battle. The model isn't as ridiculous as it looks, although it does look pretty silly. But who am I to judge space vikings, a rocket powered longboat pulled by wolves makes sense right?

Warhammer 40k – I've almost completed the first phase of my Space Wolf Commission. This is a tabletop quality paint job for this group. The big difference between these and the 3 color + wash jobs is that I do edge highlighting and pick out more details. This also has a freehand tribal pattern on one shoulder pad and knee pad on applicable models.
