Can't hardly breath ... Catching up

Random – So Labor Day week I took the family out to the Wisconsin Dells, it was an interesting trip as I've never been there and had no idea what to expect. We arrived after the season had ended so it was pretty relaxed. We took a DUCK ride down the river and checked out the State Parks in the area, where we wound up going of the trail and getting lost for a little while. (super proud on my boys who toughed it out and climbed through some rather difficult terrain.) We also checked out the House on the Rock, which I wanted to see ever since reading American Gods. Very weird place but glad I went through, it took us 5 hours to get through the whole thing.

On the painting table ... Star Phantoms Centurions

Warhammer 40,000 – So the command squad I painted for the RIW Painters Showcase sold a week after they put it up. Not exactly a prolonged advertising venture but pretty cool that mine is the only set that has sold from that portion of their case. Hopefully the buyer will contact me to get the rest of the army painted up.

Sin City ... Welcome to Haven

Sin City ... Welcome to Haven

The Others: Seven Sins – I recently received a big box of stuff for the C'MON kickstarter The Others: Seven Sins. (yeah the name is a bit long... I'm just going to call it The Others). As wil most C'MON kickstarters it was late about five months or so, nothing compared to the several year delay of Kingdom Death or Relic Knight but still a sizable delay. I'm not sure how their estimator still has a job with that kind of track record, but honestly this wasn't something I was super eager to get, the amount of stuff you got for $100 was pretty sick and even if the game turned out terrible they'd be fun to paint.

On the painting table... Heavy G and the Boys

Heavy Gear – So my new client is into pretty much everything. I never really got into Battletech beyond a few novels and gawking at the minis in the mail order catalogs I used to get as a kid. I never really got into the game. The idea of big mechs stomping around a desolate wasteland is still appealing to me but not something I'm going to be able to shoehorn into my existing game rotation. So now enter the joys commission work. I get to enjoy painting up the models for games I'll never play and be able to live vicariously through my clients.

So a Knight and a Rogue walk into the bar ...

Dungeons & Dragons – I just wrapped up two more characters for a client. These are both pretty cool models and I'm really happy with how the paint turned out. For the knight's cape I went back to my any color red highlight. I'm disappointed I haven't been able to find this product for any other colors because it works amazing to get that nice highlight without turning orange or pink.

Wrath of Kings – I have to admit I never played this game nor had much interest in it. Working on this box for a client might just have changed my mind. The job consists of a Hadross Starter, Unit Upgrade Box and a Twilight Knight, the client was looking for a basic 3 color job with a wash. Being the first set of Wrath of King figures I've painted I'm going to go a little further and add some water effects to really bring out the blue of the water.

Orange is the New Black ... Betrayal at Cath Marines

Warhammer 40,000 – Look who's back. My client with the homebrew space marine chapter just dropped off a Betrayal at Cath box set and Scions Starter for my to paint up. After working with the fantasy terrain for a good while I was glad to be back batch painting marines to a three color standard. There's something satisfying about finishing 30+ dudes in a night.

Chemical Romance - Guild Ball Alchemists WIP

Chemical Romance - Guild Ball Alchemists WIP

Guild Ball – I put together an alchemist team for a client with some additional union players recently. Much like the Hunters Guild I did previously these models went together smoothly and look really good. For the paint scheme my client was concerned about having two teams that were primarily green. To solve the issue I'm using a medical looking pale green and copper as the general scheme. I think it's going to look pretty cool as the green color is similar to what happens to copper as it ages.

Hero Forge ... More DnD projects

Hero Forge ... More DnD projects

Dungeons & Dragons – I have several DnD projects in the works now for a few clients. The big one is a bunch of dungeon terrain with a few interesting monsters to help populate that dungeon. I also have a few Hero Forge Custom Character minis coming in from clients who what to get their special models painted up for the tabletop. The concept is pretty cool and it seems like a reasonable cost to get a model made to match the pen and paper character they created.

Deathwatch ... Incoming

Warhammer 40,000 – I guess it's really outgoing, I just wrapped up my first commission of Deathwatch Marines (I'm going to have more...) This one was a simple three color, wash and base job. I think they look pretty good, edge highlighting would really make them pop but my client wanted to keep the budget relatively low on these.
