Warhammer 40,000 – You know a codex is good when you start to see models being used that you've never seen on the table before. With this latest release my Tyranid client has been bringing me a bunch of models that I honestly didn't know existed.
Read MoreWarhammer 40,000 – I remember when I got back into 40K back in third edition. A small store in Almont, MI, Carmalot Computers and Hobbies, ran a tournament every Saturday. It was always 1500 points, $5 to enter and went three rounds. The winner got store credit and they always had a decent turn out. Back then going from 3.5 to 4th edition Tyranids ran the show. At the time I was running Chaos Space Marines and I always dreaded facing off against bugs. Sadly that store has been out of business for about as long as Tyranids have been not so great.
Read MoreWarhammer 40,000 – The Landraider has gone from a useless points sink to an unstoppable killing machine in 8th edition. Vehicles in general have become more survivable and able to dish out a fair amount of pain for your opponent. I for one am happy to see them on the table again.

As Chaos players learn the ends and outs of their new codex many units that weren't optimal choices before are seeing more play on the tabletop, especially standard Chaos Marine Squads. More durable that cultists and able to hold their ground these traitorous bad boys can be a force to be reckoned with.

Read MoreWarhammer 40,000 – Daemon Engines are one of the unique things available to a Chaos Marine force. Most of the other vehicles they have are just the spikey equivalent to the loyalist counterparts. Daemon Engines are a unique blend of monster and machine.
Read MoreWarhammer 40,000 – Shock troops are only good when you can get them across the board protected. When they don't have the option to deep strike they need a transport. The humble rhino is the cheapest way to get them there.
Read MoreWarhammer 40,000 – Chaos Spawn are one of the creepier units in the Chaos Marine army. One two many "gifts" or disappointing your patron can result in becoming a gibbering monster. Of course it also can be the fate of anyone who attracts the Ire of a sorcerer so its important to have a few around.
Read MoreWarhammer 40,000 – Khorne Berserkers and excellent shock troops, if you can get them into combat they tear through infantry with ease. Which means they're an excellent addition to my Night Lords force. In order to force sweet leadership checks casualties need to occur, these guys will deliver.

There has been a long stretch where a Chaos force would rarely grace my table and now I have 3-4 in the works. Eight edition 40K has really brought he game back to a fun time with some really interesting tactical decisions.

As you can see by my plethora of Black Legion posts expanding your army is almost an addiction. Every new combo you find or cool model you see eventually finds its way into your army.
Read MoreWarhammer 40,000 – More models for the Black Legion, this time it's a pair of Forgefiends. These rarely taken models have seen a nice power bump with the Stratagems in the Chaos Marine Codex. For a cheap investment you get a solid basic gun and a large body that can soak up some wounds.
Read MoreWarhammer 40,000 – Knights are models that really draw my eye, they're huge and make a great centerpiece model for any force that can take them. The Forgeworld Chaos Knight kit is exceptional. The details and simple modifications to the basic model really take it to another level.
Read MoreWarhammer 40,000 – There's gold in them thar .... Well something like that. I'm working on a large force of Sisters of Silence paired with Adeptus Custodes for a client. This is an army that is almost completely gold with some red highlights. It took me two solid nights to get all the models assembled (minus the magnets for the Dreadnoughts which are to come.) It's been a little while since I had a full army build from the ground up for a completely new army. The sprues for these two armies are identical to the ones that comes in the Burning of Properso box game, so the force really consists of 5 sculpts of each model with variations on weapons. With the Custodes you can swap around the arms to get some variation but the sisters are really just mono-pose with different weapons.
Read MoreWarhammer 40,000 – Dreadnoughts in drop pods were the bane of my existence during 6th and 7th edition. Anytime I'd want to play a vehicle heavy force they'd drop in front of my line block LOS and miraculously explode a key unit almost without fail. I think this was mostly because it was so easy to use the plastic kit and move those machines across the field quickly. Paying almost double for a Lucius Pattern Pod made them rarely seen or purchased in my area. Now that Dreadnoughts can't go in a regular drop pod I feel like you might see more of these massive resin models hitting the table.

What started out as a small force Shadow War: Armageddon force has grown into a full fledged army. now that the rules are out and Tyranids are pretty good on the table my client brought by several additions to his force.
Read MoreWarhammer 40,000 – I love Imperial Knights. The giant stompy robots are a great addition to Warhammer 40K. Not as powerful as their bigger brothers and far less cost prohibitive the Knights bring a sense of epic battles to the tabletop. The difference in scale between your average trooper and one of these makes such an amazing scene on the table.

Read MoreWarhammer 40,000 – The Nurgle force I've been slowly adding to for a client just got some fresh additions in the for of some giant disgusting flies. These are a simple three-color job so not nearly as disgusting as I could make them, but effective non-the-less.
