I Pick Things Up and Put Them Down

Terrain Building – Sorting through the sections of Bug Hunt Corridors I have left to paint and build, I can across some nifty components that I forgot were included in the pledge.

First up were some nifty acrylic counters to indicate if doors are locked or open, these are pretty cool and I'm sure I'll use them once we start laying some games on this terrain set. They fit right over the tabs that are used to slide the doors open and closed so very useful counters.

Next is the really cool bonus bit: The Ganeway Load Lifter. This wonder of engineering is used to move around the hex crates that were also included in the pledge. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be available for general sale which means this was a Kickstarter Exclusive. Really a shame because I'd love to pick up a few more of them since the model turned out so cool.

When I first dumped out the tiny little baggy of parts I thought it was going to be a giant pain to assemble. In actuality it took me less then five minutes to glue the hole thing together. Really impressive and full of character. I haven't decided how I want to paint it up yet so I'll put it in the pile with the load of crates to be taken care of at a later date.

Getting Raunchy - Judge Dredd Book Review

Book Review – Recently I finished reading Judge Dredd: The XXX Files. I picked this compilation book up because the cover art is really fun and kept catching my eye. I'm slowly reading the Complete Case Files but opted to take a break from them to read a stand alone compilation.

Starting with the book itself, this is a nice trade paperback with a soft-touch finish on the cover which looks and feels great. The interior full color pages are printed on a nice glossy stock that reproduces the art well. This would look great on a coffee table as a conversation piece. (given you're ok with the content)

The stories inside are from mulitple time periods by different authors and illustrators, sharing the common theme of love, sex or other adult industries in Mega City One. Some of the stories are just plain weird like the Sex Olympics while others are a really compelling read with great art like the Jack the Ripper style sex-droid killer. Even the weird stories are an interesting read and provide a look into the seedier side of the Big Meg.

I picked this up for some inspiration to finish up my Slippery Kitty Lounge terrain piece. The art definitly gives me some good ideas on how I should decorate the interior. The added bonus is I also have some ideas on possible story arcs to use once I can get my group back into playing the Judge Dredd Miniatures game.

If you're a fan of Judge Dredd this is a must read.

Come into my room ... more bug hunt

Terrain Making – Next up in my quest to complete this giant terrain set are a few of the standard side rooms. These attach to a corridor section and swap out with the narrow side rooms (for if you need to put a bunch of rooms next to each other.) Painting these uses the same technique as the other sections which you can read about here

Still Gluing ... Bug Hunt Corridors WIP

Terrain Making – I've finally wrapped up gluing all the roof sections, crates and loader for this project. These are the items I decided made more sense to assemble prior to painting. The kits go together really easily and it's so nice having all the parts cut out and packaged in neat little baggies. I didn't have any missing or broken parts which is quite the feat considering how many tiny pieces there are in each section.

Hazard Stripes ...

Terrain Making – So the template idea I had for the railings didn't really work out. Because of how small the bars are it was difficult to keep my acetate template in place (probably should have cut it from masking material or used stencil adhesive). So rather than hold up my progress to  figure it out I opted to just freehand the lines. I'm sure a decal or stencil would probably be more consistent but this works.

Does it smell like burning?

Terrain Making – My first personal project of the new year is to get my Bug Hunt Corridors set painted and assembled. This is a major undertaking as I backed this project pretty heavily so I have a ton of little baggies full of burned wood. I started the project putting together all 18 of the straight sections (I held back with three of them as I think I need to get some stairwell parts to make best use of my roof parts and make a complex you can use in regular games as well).

My, my that's a big gun ... More Outlaws

Wild West Exodus – Four more models for the Outlaw crew I've been working on for a client. I guess these are twin sisters that are characters for the game. Unfortunately it hasn't caught my interest enough to pick up and read the background (or play) but the models are really nice. (I'm tempted to get these two for myself to do some conversion work). Also included are two robot dogs also really nice minis that I'm tempted to pick up for conversion work.

Can't take the sky from me ... Wayward Eight Wrapped Up

Wild West Exodus – I finally got the Wayward Eight and other characters wrapped up to go with my recent Outlaw faction commission. These models were super easy to assemble and the amount of flash wash minimal. There is a ton of little details on each model so it can be a little overwhelming to paint. I'm not sure exactly what the function of some of the straps, buckles and other doo-dads on these are I guess just like the put a skull on it motto of GW; Outlaw minis just wants to put a strap on it. (Wow that sounds pretty dirty...)

Infinite Possibilities ... Disney/Marvel Toys and Game

Disney/Marvel INFinity – For Christmas Santa brought the family a new game, this is one of those games that has little plastic toys that you have to buy for each character you want in the game, it also has blind purchase upgrade packs that have new missions, upgrades and more. Essentially someone figure out how to mash-up a video game, collectible game and toy line into one sweet little package. Even if the game wasn't fun the figures are really nice sculpts made out of chunky vinyl, and cost about the same as a premium action figure; so worth it on their own if you're into that type of toy. That pretty much covered everything I new about the game prior to picking it up.

Happy New Year - What's on tap for 2015?

Year-End Wrap Up – Time flies when you're having fun. It's hard to believe another year is in the books. 2014 saw the delivery of several big kickstarters which have left me flooded with stuff to paint (Relic Knights, Deadzone, Bug Hunt Corridors, Dreadball Extreme, Zombicide). There are also quite a few that have been delayed (Kingdom Death, Forgotten King, Reaper Bones II) which I'm actually a little glad for since finding time to get this stuff done has been a challenge this year.

Off the painting table ... Outlaws First Batch Wrapped Up

Wild West Exodus – Just a quick post of the first batch of Outlaws I've wrapped up. These were going to just be a basic 3-color paint job but as I was painting the models I couldn't bring myself to just stop with the basic paint job. My client was of course super happy about this so all good things.

We're going on a Bug Hunt ... WIP Corridors

Terrain Building – I recently picked up the roofs to match the Bug Hunt Corridors terrain that I kickstarted a while back. Because it was a limited time deal I felt I should get them so I can use the terrain set for more than just the inside of a ship or building complex. With the roofs added they can suddenly be used as freestanding building in their own right which opens up their use in big games of Warhammer 40K, Relic Knights, MERCS, and other sci-fi games.

Time and Tides ... Christmas Prep

Warhammer 40,000 – So last year I got a bunch of 40k stuff for Christmas. Most of which was still in the shrink-wrap and stacked on my to-do shelf. I figure with Christmas right around the corner I really need to get this stuff built before I wind up with more boxes that will need my attention.

Chibi Chidi Y'all ... making an impact

Chibi Chidi Y'all ... making an impact

Super Dungeon Explore – I recently found the box of Chibi Dungeon Adventure miniatures from the Impact Kickstarter a while back. When these came in I was super excited to paint them up and make up rules for them to use in games of Super Dungeon Explore but some other shiny thing caught my eye and I boxed them up and lost track of them for a while. (Oddly enough I boxed them in my Super Dungeon box with the tiles ... I keep my minis in a Battlefoam bag and built a 3D board that I use anytime we play.)
