Orange ya glad I said Space Marine?

Warhammer 40,000 – Oh yes I know that's a terrible title. (Let's just pretend I'm a hipster and it's meant to be ironic, alright?) This little 40K revival has been good for business as of late. My newest client has a Space Marine Bike Army that he needs painted to a three color+ paint job as well as some conversion work. From the list he sent over it looks to be a fairly large force so I'll be up to my ears in Marines for a while.

Terrain Making – Now I can have joining rooms. The next sections I worked on are the two-side corridor rooms these sections allow to have a room on both sides of the section. If I had the narrow side rooms this would be perfect to set up a row of holding cells as it if it works pretty good to add some additional interest areas and potential ambush sites.

I Pick Things Up and Put Them Down

Terrain Building – Sorting through the sections of Bug Hunt Corridors I have left to paint and build, I can across some nifty components that I forgot were included in the pledge.

First up were some nifty acrylic counters to indicate if doors are locked or open, these are pretty cool and I'm sure I'll use them once we start laying some games on this terrain set. They fit right over the tabs that are used to slide the doors open and closed so very useful counters.

Next is the really cool bonus bit: The Ganeway Load Lifter. This wonder of engineering is used to move around the hex crates that were also included in the pledge. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be available for general sale which means this was a Kickstarter Exclusive. Really a shame because I'd love to pick up a few more of them since the model turned out so cool.

When I first dumped out the tiny little baggy of parts I thought it was going to be a giant pain to assemble. In actuality it took me less then five minutes to glue the hole thing together. Really impressive and full of character. I haven't decided how I want to paint it up yet so I'll put it in the pile with the load of crates to be taken care of at a later date.

Come into my room ... more bug hunt

Come into my room ... more bug hunt

Terrain Making – Next up in my quest to complete this giant terrain set are a few of the standard side rooms. These attach to a corridor section and swap out with the narrow side rooms (for if you need to put a bunch of rooms next to each other.) Painting these uses the same technique as the other sections which you can read about here

Terrain Building – I recently picked up the roofs to match the Bug Hunt Corridors terrain that I kickstarted a while back. Because it was a limited time deal I felt I should get them so I can use the terrain set for more than just the inside of a ship or building complex. With the roofs added they can suddenly be used as freestanding building in their own right which opens up their use in big games of Warhammer 40K, Relic Knights, MERCS, and other sci-fi games.

Time and Tides ... Christmas Prep

Warhammer 40,000 – So last year I got a bunch of 40k stuff for Christmas. Most of which was still in the shrink-wrap and stacked on my to-do shelf. I figure with Christmas right around the corner I really need to get this stuff built before I wind up with more boxes that will need my attention.

Off the painting table ... Chaos 40K force

Warhammer 40,000 – I was able to wrap up the first batch of marines and cultists for this recent three-color basic paint commission. My friend has no time or desire to paint his own force but he's tired of playing with a gray plastic army so he's asked me to paint up his stuff in the cheapest way possible while still making it look good from the distance you look at it on the tabletop.

OCD ... Yeah you know me

Terrain Building – Ok I'll admit it I'm obsessive about many things to the extreme. One of my major projects that keeps getting back burnered is my Space Marine Company. Part of the reason it's taking so long is that I do a unit at a time and take them to a high level paint job, mount to a resin base and apply a decal with the Battle Brothers name. Yeah I know its a bit much but when it's done I think it will be impressive

Warhammer 40,000 - It seems like I started these ages ago but they've sat on my shelf with the parts waiting for me to wrap them up. Well after playing two different 3,000 point games of Warhammer 40K recently I was a bit embarrassed to be fielding not only unpainted but unfinished models. I was pretty happy with how they worked out so I blocked out a section to time to glue the extra pipes and hoses onto them and get at least a basic coat on paint on them.

Warhammer 40,000 - I was able to get another big 40K game in recently, this time around I had a chance to play against the Imperial Guard force that I spent most of the summer painting. Of course my own stuff wasn't quite fully painted (or completed for that matter ... yes I'm looking at you hoses for the Centurion conversion). However we still had a good time playing one of the Maelstrom of War missions from the rule book.

Warhammer 40,000 - I'm working on another simple tabletop commission that involves several hundred models. Obviously with the large model count my client wanted to keep things as cheap as possible, so these are going to be a basic paint and wash. Warhammer models tend to lend themselves to looking pretty good with this technique which means it's easy to crank through a ton of models and make them look consistent.

Seventh Edition 40K - 3000 Point Game

Warhammer 40,000 – Over the weekend I was able to schedule a 3,000 point game with one of the guys in my game club. We decided to play 3000 points using the mission cards with standard 12" deployment zones. Rather than play a standard mission we just opted to use the cards and score (1) VP for each unit you destroy.

Red and Brass, ready to kick some ...

Warhammer 40, 000 – Yes sir that's right I have another 40K commission. No guard this time around, and no imperial eagles either. I'll be painting up Chaos Marines. I'm looking forward to this job as Chaos was always my first love for 40K. The models were always so cool and fun to paint. I do have a bit of seller's remorse after parting with most of my Chaos Marines so projects like this make me happy and a little nostalgic.

101 Things to Do with Craters #2

Terrain Making – I finally had a chance to get back to the series I started a few weeks ago. As I mentioned then I have a mold I made for craters back when they were a thing needed for Warhammer 40K. As such i don't want it to go to waste so I'm working on various terrain sets that use some or all of the crater to create unique items from a common mold.

Warhammer 40,000 – I suck. Plain and simple I've been sitting on this job for far to long. Part of the problem is the client has provided no deadline and has most of his other stuff that is playable so this is really just a bunch of stuff he got a good deal on and wants to match his other models. This is great for me as it means I just paint when I have a chance between other jobs but it also sucks because I feel guilty for having this for so long.
