Dungeon Decor: Stone, Wood and 'Shrooms

Dungeon Decor: Stone, Wood and 'Shrooms

Dungeons & Dragons – Painting stone and wood is very relaxing. It's a fairly simple process that while a bit time consuming doesn't require a ton of thought to do and make the models look great. Painting tiny mushrooms and levers not so much. Those require a bit more patience, and a steadier hand to get done to good standard.

The Dark Knight ... wrapping up more Batman Miniatures Game

Batman: The Miniature Game – Moving right along I just finished up a Dark Knight Trilogy Batman model, this is a pretty cool model, of course when a model is primarily black it's tricky to make it stand out (one of the reasons for the Blue/Grey Batman Costume). In the films and "Real Life" all black makes perfect sense when you want to see what the character is doing or to see the details other colors make a bit more sense. I think I might stick with the black and gray scheme of the Bat-Fleck version.

The South Shall Rise Again ... Heavy Gear

Heavy Gear – These have been waiting for a base set for a little while. I wrapped up the first part of this box set a few months ago, however my client had special round bases that he want to use on the smaller models that come with hex bases. After waiting for some time he gave up on getting more of the Shadows of Brimstone bases and gave me some Wyrd 30mm round lip bases to put the Southern Half of his starter on.

Suicide Squad What a Novel Idea.

Book Review – So as you may have noticed from the book shelf in the margin, I've been reading a ton of DC graphic novels. This started as a means to integrate myself in the universe for the Batman Miniatures game and to fill in the numerous blanks I have about the characters in that universe. I always was more of a Marvel guy, however the Marvel game doesn't appeal to me as much as the dark a gritty Batman game does. (maybe that's why I didn't mind the new DCU movies as much, dark and gritty is kind of my thing, hence why I play 40K)

Warhammer 40,000 – Two landspeeder storms and a drop pod are next on the list for my Ultramarine client. Both of these kits fall into the "least favorite to build" category for most gamers so I tend to see many of them come through for either build and paint or just build requests. After you have as many under your belt as I do it becomes quite easy to build them. Of course getting the drop pod doors to line up perfectly is still damn near impossible.

In the darkest night ... City Scenics from TT Combat

Terrain – So I've been bit by the Batman bug (I hope it didn't have rabies.) The idea of a dirty dark city appeals to me (maybe that's why I live in Metro-Detroit) so when I started painting some models for a client for the Batman Miniatures game I started doing some research and found some pretty nice MDF terrain. I know, I know groan sigh more crap that needs to be air-brushed to show any detail right? In fact sir that would be where you're wrong.

On the painting table ... To Infinity and Beyond

Infinity – I believe this is the first batch of models I've ever touched for Infinity. The game has always been on the fringe of what I've been interested in but never really grabbed me. I don't know much about the system other than it's reactive and based in a anime universe. Anytime I see nice terrain for it I get jealous and want to build something near future that's not gothic. I started to build a complete city for my Judge Dredd Project but never quite finished it off.

Warhammer 40,000 – Flight of the Valkyrie has been running through my head. I'm working on four of these planes, I guess they have a decent formation? I'm not really sure as I typically see Vendettas across the table. Never having put these kits together before I have to say I'm impressed. They go together smoothly even though it's the older style of GW kit with vague diagrams and no numbers on the sprue.

Soooo ... Batman Miniatures Game ... hmm ... interesting

Soooo ... Batman Miniatures Game ... hmm ... interesting

Batman Miniatures Game – Ok so I've painted a few of these crews for a client and really liked the models, in fact I like them so much that I started doing so research into the game and feeling out what models I would like for my own collection. Of course then they released a Suicide Squad box set based on the film and I jumped in. The character design from the movie was really unique and fits my tastes better than some of the more outlandish traditional batman villain costumes.

Reading List - Going Batty

Comics – As a kid I liked Batman (and most of the Super Friends). Not so much the comic books but all the other media (TV, Movies, Toys) as a pop culture icon he was my jam. When I was younger there were very few Batman comics that caught my interest. Back then I didn't care for the artists and DC books in general weren't my style. I was more into Marvel and would occasionally pick up a book from the other guys if the cover looked interesting (Lobo was the exception I bought anything he was I guess I fit the demographic).

Skaven Salvage

Warhammer Fantasy/Age of Sigmar – I love having really great game stores in my area. The place I regularly play at has been doing a great job sending commission work my way. So when they needed a favor I was happy to help them out. Apparently they pick up random armies from people looking to get out of the hobby or to change games on a regular basis. Usually they can turn these around pretty quickly but sometimes they get a stinker.

Angels of Death - Space Hulk Complete

Warhammer 40,000 – The second half of the Space Hulk commission I've been working on has wrapped up. These are really basic Blood Angels. The whole job is a simple 3-Color job with a wash. Since they are just board game pieces my client didn't want anything fancy. I have more photos of these in the 40K Gallery.

Stealing Genes ...

Space Hulk – Genestealer Cults are back and I for one am excited. One of my regular clients recently dropped off a set of Space Hulk miniatures from the most recent version of the game to have me paint up to a basic standard. I never managed to pick up a copy of the game for myself, partially because a friend owns it and partially because I have a full bug hunt corridor set that I can play Zone Mortalis 40K on to get that type of feel. Or so I thought ...

On the painting table ... See you at the Crossroads

Malifaux – Man that song brings me back to high school, its a shame that group didn't last long after Eazy-E passed on. Enough about that today I'm talking about another band, the Crossroads Seven from Malifaux. I've been out of touch with this game since the change to second edition but it appears to be a band made up of a member of every faction.
